Core Game Mechanics
When the Heroes attempt any significant task the GM will require the player to make a Test. This is done in the following steps.
1. The GM decides which Skill is most appropriate.
2. The GM decides weather it is a Unopposed Test or an Opposed Test
3. The GM decides how Difficult the task is (and selects the Target Number - TN)
4. The player the rolls two six sided dice adds them to the most appropriate Skill Level to get a total
5. The roll is checked to see if there was a Critical Success or Critical Failure
6. If the total is equal to or higher than the Target Number than the attempted action was successful and the GM with describe the outcome
7. If the total is less than the Target Number than the attempted action was unsuccessful and the GM with describe the outcome

Unopposed Tests
Unopposed Tests are made when a Hero attempts to perform an unopposed action, such as tracking a beast, manufacturing an arrow, climbing a wall, etc. An unopposed action is when no one else is attempting to oppose the Hero’s action. Most of these tests will be made when the Heroes are out of Combat.
To make an Unopposed Test, the Games Master selects the most appropriate Skill of the Hero and the Difficulty Level of the task. The player rolls two six sided dice (2d6) and adds the Hero’s Skill.
Difficulty of Task - Target Number (TN)
Simple - 6
Easy - 8
Moderate - 10
Hard - 12
Very hard - 14
Heroic - 16
Insane - 18
If the result is lower than the Target Number then the action was unsuccessful.
If the result is equal to or higher than the Target Number then the action was successful
The Games Master will describe the outcome of the test.

Opposed Tests
Opposed Tests are made when a Hero attempts to perform an opposed action, such as fighting with a monster, wrestling with a guard, or dodging a blow etc. An opposed action is when someone else is attempting to oppose the Hero’s action. Most of these tests will be made when the Heroes are in Combat.
To make an Opposed Test, the Games Master selects the most appropriate Skill then the player rolls two six sided dice (2d6) and adds it to get a total.
The Games Master does this for the opposing creature in the same manor. Selecting the most appropriate Skill then the Games Master rolls two six sided dice (2d6) and adds it to get a total. Alternatively the GM can choose to speed up play by having the creature automatically roll a 7 and add the appropriate skill.
If the Hero’s total is higher than the monster’s total then the Hero’s action was successful.
If the monster’s total is higher than the Hero’s total then the monster’s action was successful.
If the Hero’s total is equal to the monster’s total then the Hero’s and the monster’s actions are both unsuccessful.
The Games Master will describe the outcome of the Test.
The Games Master may apply a modifier both the Hero’s and / or the monster’s total to represent the surrounding circumstances.
